Bob Born, APRN, PMHCNS-BC
Integrative & Holistic Psychiatry in Wichita, Kansas

I’m board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and have practiced psychiatry in Kansas for more than 28 years. After earning my master’s degree at the University of Missouri–Columbia, I served in the National Health Service Corps, caring for individuals with limited access to mental-health care.

Over the years, I’ve worked across nearly every level of care—

  • Crisis center: helping victims of violence and trauma find safety and stability.

  • Detention facility: guiding inmates toward accountability and change.

  • Inpatient psychiatry: supporting people at their most vulnerable moments.

  • Outpatient and private practice: helping adults rebuild confidence, direction, and emotional balance.

These experiences shaped my conviction that medication alone is rarely enough. True recovery blends neuroscience, therapy, lifestyle, and meaning—improving sleep, nutrition, hydration, and self-awareness alongside medication when needed.

What About Bob

I’ve faced my own hurdles—ADHD, color-blindness, hearing loss, and long-term insomnia—and I know how frustrating it is to receive advice that doesn’t match lived reality. Those challenges taught me empathy and practicality; when patients describe what keeps them up at night, I understand. My approach is collaborative, direct, and focused on workable solutions.

Beyond the Office

Outside the office, I find balance in sailing, reading philosophy, and studying languages. I’m fascinated by what shapes human nature—how some people find meaning in both joy and hardship, while others seem driven by bitterness or cruelty. Understanding those differences helps me guide patients toward insight, resilience, and the freedom to choose a better path—and, I hope, makes me a better person in the process.
